Enfermo Distro is a label originating from the extreme Underground in the ass of Europe, better known as Portugal, and which was founded in 2019 with the aim of supporting filthy projects where the nasty noise of shit remains faithful to the true decadence of total chaos.
Although I may seem suspicious, I am one of the Bastrds responsible for leading my dear brother of the Fucking Nasty Noise to found Enfermo Distro and I am proud to support him, as well as thanking him for all the support and insane devotion that Cedric has always shown and given to Murder Records and all the projects we have together, so it is with great honor and pride that I want to introduce you to Enfermo Distro and give my symbolic support with the following interview and present to you the work and passion of Enfermo Distro.
Without wasting any more time with idle chatter, I want to start this interview with my eternal brother Cedric, where we will allow you to penetrate a horrifying dungeon full of nauseating noise, where the most sensitive will never be able to penetrate and where the most resistant will still bleed from their eardrums until they become deaf and where nobody will survive...
NOISE ON... WORLD OFF... OUR SOCIAL HATE IS ETERNAL...
C.N. - HELL-o Noise brother Cedric, first of all I want to welcome you once again to the filthy underworld of Murder Records where I have the honor of doing this interview for Cadaveric Noiseletter and to start, I would like to start the hostilities of this conversation by asking you to talk to us and introduce Enfermo Distro.
CÉD - Hello, big brother! I hope that old carcass stays as putrid and filthy as ever! Well, since you want to move on to that description, ENFERMO DISTRO was created and inspired by what you taught me while we worked together at Murder Records, then in 2019 I started what is now the label. To be brief, otherwise we'd be here forever, talking about every detail... When I wanted to go back to Portugal, and in my wanderings through the south of Holland and north hellgium, I started to get more into the Noise scene in general... from punk, grind to power electronics, and I also wanted to put into practice my passion for writing articles and distributing material from people from the 4 corners of this planet. In fact, Enfermo's first ambition was precisely to be an underground distributor and to keep to that ethos, buying and exchanging material in order to pass it on to people like us. But you know how things are... one thing leads to another... I started making small editions of my own projects, then I started helping other bands make demos, and so it went on.
C.N. - I really respect your dedication to spreading noise, where your support has given Noisecore and Noise projects the opportunity to showcase their work. Can you tell us a little more about the main characteristics and qualities you look for in the noise disasters you release? Is the message these projects want to convey important or irrelevant to you as a label?
CÉD - Well, my goal when looking for or being offered new projects is simple. You already know that in the Noisecore / Grind scene I'm very purist, the sound has to be violent, raw and minimalist! The message, for me, is that as long as you don't give me shit about balloons and parties, take things seriously and make a sound with feeling, you're always welcome to come and knock on my door. I understand that there are people who like to party and shit, but in a genre that has the ideology of protest, anti-conformism and musical destruction... and they come with super productions, metalcore mixes or pseudo American hardcore... I'm sorry, I know there are a lot of people who like it, but it's not for me. Fortunately the world is big enough for all of us to fit in. Just do you.
C.N. - You are a very versatile and dynamic person who is always in a constant process of creating new projects and new bands. How do you evaluate this constant process of creation or does it not matter and the important thing is to make noise and don't give a fuck?
CÉD - The "versatility" comes from my passion for noise. The situation here is that as I suffer from anxiety and have to keep my mind constantly occupied with something, I feel the need to express the pressures I have inside my head, or expel the negativity I have inside me. Music (noise) is therapy for me. I make music for myself, I accept all kinds of criticism which, of course, helps me to evolve in areas that I think are appropriate. And believe it or not, the fact that I have bands is also another excuse for me to have drinks with close friends and keep the creative process going. For the rest, honestly, I don't give a shit. Things happen naturally, I'm not exactly killing myself or begging to go to places to play.
C.N. - When we met, you had a band called Gorgasmico Pornoblastoma, which became a reference in Portuguese Grindcore, especially in the decade from 2012 to 2020. During this period, you were very active and released some good releases in the underworld of violence, excited by your disturbed minds, turning it into a sick debauchery. What can we expect from this project in the future, or is there no future for Gorgasmico Pornoblastoma?
CÉD - You knew me because you murdered my band on your label in 2009 / 2010 HAHAHAH!!! Fuck... In Portugal it's not hard to be a “reference” in the Grindcore scene... There are no Grindcore bands!!!! In other words, if one comes along that does something even remotely good, you're in a good position. But let's not go down that road, I don't feel like talking about the same things all the time. In Portugal, you make a piece of shit with 2 blasts and a half-punk riff, and you're already playing Grindcore... that's why I rest my case..... But picking up on your question again, GORGASMICO PORNOBLASTOMA ended in 2018. There will be no more from this band. Luizao and I talked, he says he has no more time, and without my brother there is no more GxPx. It was a spectacular chapter in my life, but I have other bands and other interesting things to do.
C.N. - In 2019 you created your project Drainage, which is currently the project where you expose your unbalanced ideas and thoughts in which everything around you is an excuse to invoke discomfort and violence. Do you want to vomit some discomfort here and make the essence of this project a little better known?
CÉD - I created DRENAGEM because, as I said above, I always need to be creating and channeling what I feel into music. And since nobody ever has time for anything... it's cool to say you have bands, but working, composing and releasing shit gets complicated... and people suddenly run out of time ;)... But yeah, this project has saved my life on a few occasions, at least I can yell at the microphone and vent my frustrations and come home with a smile on my face. Man, as you know, I like to pick up my backpack and hit the road... so if it's loud, even better. And when you want something done right, do it yourself. Fortunately, nowadays, I can't say anything... I have a team of two other crazy people who enjoy this as much as I do, and we can record constantly and annoy people.
C.N. - You are also active in other projects such as Insolencia, Distrofia, Hypomania, Ruina, Stercore, Finecut, Efermus, Bad Tip Noise, Disfigured Human Mind and I think a few more that I can't remember all of, but that shows the versatility you have when it comes to making noise. Can you tell us a little more about your projects?
CÉD - You haven't forgotten any of them. All the bands I'm involved with these days are there. I like a lot of things, although I like heavy and dirty sounds... they all share one thing in common, they're all uncompromising and fucking violent projects! And they're all bands with longtime friends... and I think that's what makes them special. All within the Black noise, noise / Grind and Sludge / DOOM scene... basically the genres I've always listened to.
C.N. - Now talking about your fanzine A Doença, whose second issue you have released is entirely handmade and is fantastic and full of very well-crafted content, where we can find very interesting interviews and articles about projects from the underworld of infamous noise. Tell us a little more about this fanzine and when can we expect the next issue? You also used to do a podcast, but it is currently dormant. Are you going to get back into the swing of things with that or not?
CÉD - Well... I wasn't very happy with the first volume of the fanzine "A Doença", because everything was done on the PC... it was a quick process... it was just opinions and reviews... there was no substance, dedication or work. And I've always liked this 90s revival thing, doing everything by hand, drawing, getting time with research, getting in touch with bands... It was 4 years of dedication and a taste for the Portuguese underground, something that many people don't have... and I think it's cool to do it this way, because I have younger people who are interested in knowing the history of some bands and genres. It's also a way for me to be able to support the people who in a certain way influenced me to do what I do today, and I'm also gathering new interviews for the next volume eheh. The podcast is basically a fanzine in pirate radio format hahaha! It's not dormant, it's on standby for now, because with tours, releases, work, family... there's not enough time for everything. But I already have my co-host for the next editions, and the right time will come.
C.N. - How do you see the noise scene nowadays? Although I don't really identify with electronic noise or harsh noise made with machines and where the organic essence simply doesn't exist or if it does it's exposed in a very artificial way, what's your opinion on this and about the trend that harsh noise is facing nowadays?
CÉD - Your question can be answered in several ways. The noise scene in general, honestly, despite being small, there are some really good bands/projects out there! Your concept of organic, my friend, cut the bullshit because you like projects like THE RITA, in fact you were the one who introduced me to that project and it was because of that, that I started messing around with pedals. What you don't like, and what everyone who likes Noise doesn't like, is the scene of people with any kind of crap saying that Harsh Noise or imitating the contemporary artist behind VOMIR. Of course, these new characters that are appearing they are not my cup of tea... But I'm nothing. I do me, I let the others have fun I don't have time anymore to get mad at those kind of things.
C.N. - Enfermo Distro have joined forces with other labels countless times to contribute to supporting the Underground. Do you thing is important join forces to support each other or is irrelevantdo for you? Can to talk a little more about this and give your opinion on it?
CÉD - For me, underground is about cooperation. I don't believe in competition between bands or between musicians/record labels, nor do I believe in individualism, nor in the clause that we are the owners of the truth... we always learn until the day we breathe our last breath, we all have something to offer and to give to others. Be it philosophically, socially, technically, etc... And having said that, yes I think collaboration between everyone is very important, to help promote as many bands as possible and keep the scene alive! If anyone reads this shitty interview of mine, believe me... this is fucking awesome.
C.N. - How do you see the Underground today and what do you think are the strong and weak points of a movement that has undergone countless changes in attitudes and in the way bands use to express their noise and their message, in a world where everything is offensive and overly sentimental?
CÉD - There is still an underground, and there are still those who have the spirit. Fortunately, there is still resistance... of course, the most common thing (as we say in Portuguese) is for people to always pull the sardines to their plate, and try to reach higher levels. And yes, with the new WOKE trends and shit, now everything is an excuse to cancel people and feel offended... my people, everything is fucked! But we always manage to move like eels in the middle of the mud. But I stopped worrying about that, a long time ago... honestly, bro, I don't give a shit. As soon as we can enjoy ourselves and make noise... everything is fine.
C.N. - Enfermo Distro presents a very interesting work with the releases it presents, keeping the essence and attitude of DIY alive. Would you like to talk a little more about this and tell us a little more about the reasons that lead you to keep this attitude alive, where you manage to give your own identity to each release you make?
CÉD - I've always liked the DIY movement and handcrafts, which means that if you dedicate yourself a little, you can have all your releases customized. I prefer to have small editions that really capture the band's personality, rather than making editions of 200 copies and that shit being just another mass production. Man, each release is a moment in your life, and your dedication is a piece of art... it has to be treated as such. I really like this, I don't try to make a living from it, I just want to keep the label self-sustainable so I can keep making more releases.
C.N. - Before concluding this interview, I would like to ask you what we can expect from Enfermo Distro and your future projects. Do you have anything you want to reveal that you consider important and that you have in mind for this year of 2025?
CÉD - From ENFERMO DISTRO, don't expect anything more than extremely loud bands, blasphemy, anarchy and satanism! I have many surprises for 2025, I hope the money is enough for everything hahaha! But although it sometimes takes a while, everything ends up coming out! And believe me, a lot of noise is coming!
C.N. - To conclude this interview, I would like to thank you for your support over the last few years, as well as the time you took to answer these questions. Now, to end this interview, I would like to leave this space open so that you can say what is on your mind or simply tell whoever you want to fuck off...
CÉD - The pleasure is all mine Danihell, thank you for always supporting me from the end of my adolescence until my adulthood! For those who don't know, this guy has been promoting my bands since I was 17, it's been 16 years now... time flies... to all you dumbass's who walk around like sheep, think for yourself... There are better things in life than being like another idiot. Be yourself, produce, if it's shit, even better! Irritate the world, make yourself heard! Life is 2 days, and one is already gone! Fuck Posers! Only noise prevails!!!
