Following up from their ripping 2024 demo tape, NO SECTOR based out of Wellington, Aotearoa; deliver six new mouth-watering tracks of unequivocally infectious yet charismatic punk for punks sake. A shining light amongst an exciting crop of local bands. Members of the group are heavily involved in their own D.I.Y punk community. There’s something here, that lies within the manic depths of this recording; that’s sonically universal yet quirkily distinctive and singular in its own right.
The dynamic yet pummelling drumming succinctly carries the versatility and entrancing flow of the tracks throughout. The guitar and bass complements one another in this frantic yet synchronised engagement that forges their own signatures, both thematically and stylistically. Then you have these bizarre mercury poisoned vocals which are honestly out of this world. Erratic, peculiar but utterly enthralling. Unforgettable for all the right reasons.
If you took some aspects of UK82 punk mixed with the characteristics of the DISORDER - ‘Mental Disorder’ EP. Blended them without the noise necessarily, but the playfully abrasive catchiness present in Japanese noise-punk bands of the 80s and 90s; particularly THE SWANKY’S ‘Neo Damage’ EP and the CHAOS CHANNEL - ‘Just Say No!’ EP coming to mind. Sprinkle that with some 80s inspired Swedish hardcore punk a la early MISSBRUKARNA then you may be somewhat on your way to gauging where the group sit on a spectrum of possibilities or perhaps similarities?
